Sloan specializes in vacuum pressure impregnation, which is more effective than traditional dip-and-bake methods and is better suited to high voltage motors and generators. Our basic vacuum pressure impregnation motor repair process comprises several steps.

Preheating
We place the equipment in an oven that heats the equipment and allows moisture to evaporate. This helps the resin better penetrate the material.

Dry Vacuuming
We remove the equipment from the oven and place it into a vacuum chamber, which removes air and any remaining moisture.

Filling
We fill the chamber with resin, coating the part and filling in all the gaps and pores in the piece of equipment.

Wet Vacuuming
We reduce the vacuum levels and hold it for a set period of time.

Pressure
We increase pressure within the chamber using dry air, nitrogen, or other gases. This allows for even deeper penetration of the resin.

Draining
We then vent the pressure, drain the chamber of excess resin, and remove the part.

Needle Valve consists of a Brass housing a regulating needle of stainless steel and a valve seat made of Brass. Butterfly valves are the most efficient and reliable sealing Isolation valve mechanism under high vacuum working conditions. A vacuum seal provided around the plate periphery in the main body of the valve ensures fail proof working of the valve. For efficient working of the valve it is advised to ensure that the sealing plates are facing atmosphere.Butterfly Valves are of small in terms of thickness which ensures easy and faster passage for air and gases and are ideally suited for "In-line" isolation purpose. Though the butterfly valve is not intended to be used as an independent valve, it is widely used as a Baffle Valve in union with a chevron baffle at the top of a Diffusion Pump. These Butterfly Valves are offered in stainless steel SS-304 non-magnetic AISI quality high carbon steel chromium plated construction and they can be manually or pneumatically operated as per customer choice.

GVP's Gate valves have high conductance, and fabricated out of stainless steel SS 304, are designed for reliability and for use as in-line chamber isolation valves and load lock applications. These Gate valves are fitted with Neoprene "O" rings as standard and optionally viton o "O" rings are offered. Viton sealed valves can be baked up to 150 Deg.c under normal mode. These Gate valves undergo stringent leak detection tests on a Helium Mass Spectrometer for leak tightness up to 10-10 STD cc/second. HHVGate Valves are offered in several models and can be operated in both electro pneumatic as well as manual modes. Gate Valves are used immediately above the mouth of a diffusion pump or above the water-cooled baffles. The closure between the two sides is made by the movement of a horizontal plate in its own plane, the seal being an elastomeric. These valves are made in sizes of 1", 2", 4", 6", 8", 10", 20" sizes as a standard product.

Feed through with ceramic insulation offer greater mechanical stability and temperature resistance than glass. In addition, ceramic (e.g. aluminum oxide) can also be produced in an insulating form that is suitable for high voltage. This is why ceramic feed through are superior to glass feed through for high voltages and high performance. Only rigid metal-to-ceramic connections should be considered for the most rigorous electrical, thermal and vacuum technology requirements.

The voltage level must be taken into account for electric feed through, because gas discharges and flashover can occur in the vacuum if there are small clearances between conductors with high voltage differentials. Different chemicals are used in the process of the impregnation. These chemicals can be classified

as epoxy, varnish and resins. Impregnation process itself can be classified in different types like

flood impregnation, dip impregnation, vacuum impregnation, vacuum pressure impregnation, trickle

impregnation, hot roll dipped impregnation. At NACH we have expertise in manufacturing all these types

of the impregnation systems.

Flood impregnation and dip impregnation are simple impregnation processes often used in the low

voltage small frame electrical motors. In flood impregnation the resin/varnish is flooded in the chamber

where the preheated coils (electric motor stator or wound rotor) are placed. The coils are kept for

soaking in varnish for a certain period and then taken off to the baking oven. The varnish is stored in

a cold chamber or vessel called the storage tank. Typically temperatures for maintaining the varnish/

resins is 15 deg C to 10 deg C. In dip impregnation, coils are dipped in a tank that contains varnish and

kept for a certain time.

Vacuum pressure impregnation is a special process designed to impregnate the motor coils or some

castings that are used in critical applications. Vacuum pressure Impregnation often called the VPI

process impregnates the coils or metal castings under vacuum. Impregnation under vacuum prevents

advent of external moisture that may be accumulated in the voids of the coil or may be absorbed in

insulation. Vacuum impregnated coils are free of moisture that result good electrical properties.

In case of metal impregnation, vacuum impregnation results good adhesion of the chemical with the

surface. Metal impregnation process that involves impregnation of castings is often accompanied by

additional processes like cleaning of castings jobs, chemical treatment for better adhesion etc. Often

epoxy is used for porosity sealing of the castings.

In a vacuum pressure impregnation plant, there are two tanks, one is the impregnation chamber and the

other is the storage tank used to store the varnish/resin. In resin impregnation system, often storage

tanks require cold storage of level up to 10 Deg C to 15 Deg C. Alternately a epoxy impregnation system

demands hot storage, since the curing of epoxy occurs at room temperature. Distinct manufacturers

for epoxy like Alantas (formerly Dr Beck), Huntsman (formerly CIBA), Von Roll, Vantico Ltd. suggest

methods for vacuum pressure impregnation with indication of different processes like vacuum, soaking,

maintaining pressure, amount of pressure etc for better results.

In a typical vacuum pressure impregnation system for motors, preheated coils are kept in the

impregnation tank and vacuum is drawn. After a certain period resin is introduced in the impregnation

tank in controlled manner and filled till the top of the coil stack. Dry air or nitrogen pressure is applied in

the chamber for better penetration of the resin in the voids and this is maintained for a stipulated time.

Later the resin is withdrawn to the storage tank. Almost in all the impregnation processes the resin or

varnish transfer from tank to tank is achieved by pressure difference in the two tanks or by gravity flow

of the varnish.

In trickle impregnation or a hot rolled impregnation process, the resin is introduced on the motor coil

in a very controlled fashion. The coils are heated by use of its own resistance. This type of methods are

used where resin costs are higher or usage of resins/chemicals have limitations.

A major factor in engineering an electric feed through is the type of current and voltage for which it will be used and the requirements it will have to satisfy with respect to vacuum tightness and temperature resistance. The manufacturing processes for feed through are discussed in Feed through with organic insulating materials can only be used for lower voltages. Simple cast-resin feed through are frequently used for moderate current loads, e.g. for measurement currents. Epoxy resin is very well suited as an insulator and as a vacuum seal for moderate temperatures.

Multi-pole glass-molded feed through to which the leads can be soldered on both sides are installed in small flanges. There are also versions with tubes through which leads can be inserted and soldered in place.

This is important when using thermocouples, for example, as solder joints could falsify the measuring voltage. The feed through are cooled with water for high amperages.

With respect to their insulating resistance, feed through with glass-to-metal fusing are suitable for high-voltage and weak-current feed through for electronic devices. Feed through with ceramic insulation offer greater mechanical stability and temperature resistance than glass. In addition, ceramic (e.g. aluminum oxide) can also be produced in an insulating form that is suitable for high voltage. This is why ceramic feed through are superior to glass feed through for high voltages and high performance. Only rigid metal-to-ceramic connections should be considered for the most rigorous electrical, thermal and vacuum technology requirements.

The voltage level must be taken into account for electric feed through, because gas discharges and flashover can occur in the vacuum if there are small clearances between conductors with high voltage differentials. In the vulnerable pressure range between 10-3 und 10 mbar, appropriate clearances must be provided between high-voltage conductors. Potting with cast resin can also be useful in this regard.

Different chemicals are used in the process of the impregnation. These chemicals can be classified

as epoxy, varnish and resins. Impregnation process itself can be classified in different types like

flood impregnation, dip impregnation, vacuum impregnation, vacuum pressure impregnation, trickle

impregnation, hot roll dipped impregnation. At NACH we have expertise in manufacturing all these types

of the impregnation systems.

Flood impregnation and dip impregnation are simple impregnation processes often used in the low

voltage small frame electrical motors. In flood impregnation the resin/varnish is flooded in the chamber

where the preheated coils (electric motor stator or wound rotor) are placed. The coils are kept for

soaking in varnish for a certain period and then taken off to the baking oven. The varnish is stored in

a cold chamber or vessel called the storage tank. Typically temperatures for maintaining the varnish/

resins is 15 deg C to 10 deg C. In dip impregnation, coils are dipped in a tank that contains varnish and

kept for a certain time.

Vacuum pressure impregnation is a special process designed to impregnate the motor coils or some

castings that are used in critical applications. Vacuum pressure Impregnation often called the VPI

process impregnates the coils or metal castings under vacuum. Impregnation under vacuum prevents

advent of external moisture that may be accumulated in the voids of the coil or may be absorbed in

insulation. Vacuum impregnated coils are free of moisture that result good electrical properties.

In case of metal impregnation, vacuum impregnation results good adhesion of the chemical with the

surface. Metal impregnation process that involves impregnation of castings is often accompanied by

additional processes like cleaning of castings jobs, chemical treatment for better adhesion etc. Often

epoxy is used for porosity sealing of the castings.

In a vacuum pressure impregnation plant, there are two tanks, one is the impregnation chamber and the

other is the storage tank used to store the varnish/resin. In resin impregnation system, often storage

tanks require cold storage of level up to 10 Deg C to 15 Deg C. Alternately a epoxy impregnation system

demands hot storage, since the curing of epoxy occurs at room temperature. Distinct manufacturers

for epoxy like Alantas (formerly Dr Beck), Huntsman (formerly CIBA), Von Roll, Vantico Ltd. suggest

methods for vacuum pressure impregnation with indication of different processes like vacuum, soaking,

maintaining pressure, amount of pressure etc for better results.

In a typical vacuum pressure impregnation system for motors, preheated coils are kept in the

impregnation tank and vacuum is drawn. After a certain period resin is introduced in the impregnation

tank in controlled manner and filled till the top of the coil stack. Dry air or nitrogen pressure is applied in

the chamber for better penetration of the resin in the voids and this is maintained for a stipulated time.

Later the resin is withdrawn to the storage tank. Almost in all the impregnation processes the resin or

varnish transfer from tank to tank is achieved by pressure difference in the two tanks or by gravity flow

of the varnish.

In trickle impregnation or a hot rolled impregnation process, the resin is introduced on the motor coil

in a very controlled fashion. The coils are heated by use of its own resistance. This type of methods are

used where resin costs are higher or usage of resins/chemicals have limitations.
